May saw the birth of world famous Humanists: John Scott Haldane, Thomas Henry Huxley, Pierre Curie, Bertrand Russell, John Stuart Mill and Andrei Sakharov.<BR/><BR/>It was Haldane who said: "The creator, if He exists, has a special preference for beetles".<BR/>Why this should be so is be a good question to put to believers in 'intelligent design'. There are 400,000 species of beetles but only 8,000 species of mammals.<BR/><BR/>I suggest a May toast to each of these scientists.
