Malawi couple freed by president

The Malawi couple jailed for 14 years – with hard labour – by a homophobic bastard in that country have now been pardoned by their president.

It was looking bad for Steven Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 20, who had not only got the sentence – just for being gay, really – but had been separated.

Well it’s good news and all in gaydom are celebrating. Quite rightly. Read all about it here.

Initially we saw the dropping of the Ugandan anti-homosexual bill due to economic pressure from Germany and other countries.

So this comes as no surprise. I urge Tiwonge and Steven to get the hell out of there though because they'll just be harassed on a regular basis now.

Fantastic news, and a sign that international pressure really works. Let's hope these two young men somehow find a way to live their lives happily together.
