Nobody makes me laugh like Pat Condell, the atheist stand-up comedian, writer and playwright who specialises in denouncing religion of all sorts. With more than 40 video monologues on the Internet to his name, he is in the Top 100 Most-Subscribed-To-Users on YouTube.

His website is full of jokes about religion and the religious, and is well worth a visit if you’re in need of something witty the next time the vicar calls round for tea or the local imam for his bacon butty.

Some people think we shouldn’t joke about religion because it’s disrespectful, insulting or racist. Fortunately, many others treat that with the disdain it deserves while, thankfully, we have people like Condell, who do it and do it well!

Given what Ben Elton said about the BBC recently, I think we’ll have a bit of a wait for The Pat Condell Show, but we can live in hope or, failing that . . . pray.
